Inside Ocean-Hill Brownsville: The Historic NYC Teacher Strike of 1968 with Dr. Charles Isaacs In-Person
In 1968, Charles Isaacs abandoned his law school scholarship and crossed picket lines to teach mathematics in the Brooklyn school district that triggered the nation's most infamous citywide teacher strike. Isaacs will tell the story of the clash between the city's communities of color and the 92% white, predominantly Jewish, teachers' union. From his insider point of view, he will describe the racially charged conflict that paralyzed the nation's largest school system and undermined the city's economy, ultimately transforming the national conversation about race relations.
Join Dr. Isaacs for a presentation about this piece of U.S history he witnessed firsthand. Registration is preferred, but not required.
