How to Start a Revolution: America's War for Independence 250 Years Later In-Person

To commemorate the 250th anniversary of the American Revolutionary War, learn about Newburgh's role during the early days of the American Revolution, as well as how this historic event affected the Hasbrouck Family from a member of the Washington's Headquarters State Historic Site staff.

This program discusses the decisions, actions, controversies and context that resulted in the fateful “Shot Heard ‘Round the World” on April 19, 1775, that would erupt into an ocean-spanning war for American independence. Was the war inevitable? Was independence from Britain always the goal? Did America rally behind George Washington and his Continental Army? How did Newburgh and its residents contribute? From dissent to revolution, explore the details of America’s founding and how the people of Newburgh helped to influence this history-changing war.
